Revisiting Text-Motion-Invention

For various reasons, I've pulled this animated and interactive promo for the Invention Group CD out of the vault.  It's a bit odd to look and listen back on this trip through my brain back before kids, during my involvement in the Boston jazz scene while I was teaching elementary music in Cambridge.  

The band was a labor of love: twelve guys, myself included, playing my music in jazz clubs and theaters in Boston and Cambridge.  I had hoped to integrate stories about beings made of sound and non-sound into the ensemble jams and original compositions.  Kind of a tough nut to crack when the audience at most clubs want to eat and talk.

The animations were an attempt to generate interest in the band and the stories.  When I look at it now, I realize how hard it is to follow: a frame of reference to the underlying narrative is necessary to make sense of all those darn words flying around.  The only way to get that is to listen to the record a few dozen times, but the animation doesn't quite generate enough blind interest, I'd say.

Rather lo-fi and nonsensical, really.  Nonetheless, here it is:
